Compton Ranch has seen many changes since Amy and Mike began the partnership in 1999. The Paint mare Casey's Starlight Lady "Phil" was the start of it all. She was purchased to spite the Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHc) when Amy was not able to register her then only horse, an Appaloosa mare named Cisco. "Phil" was purchased and named Caseys Starlight Lady, after the Starlite Ballroom in Wahoo, NE the old stomping grounds of Amy and Mike Compton. "Phil" was intended as a Halter prospect and was shown lightly. From here Amy and Mike purchased "Phil's" mother and several other Paints and Quarter Horses and began a breeding program. Through this Amy did colt starting as well as the training of all of Compton Ranch's horses. This was until the purchase of a Peppy San Badger colt. This colt sparked a reining interest in the Comptons. And while this colt never prevailed and was later sold, "Phil" was sent to reining trainer Sherman Tegtmeier, where she spent 90 days and came home as a reining flunkie. Meanwhile, Amy started rediscovering her childhood dream of barrel racing. Skyetta Du "Sky" was found through a fellow board member on a prominent online barrel horse forum. She was a finished barrel horse in foal to a multi-Wolrd Champion Paint sire named Tiny Who Too. This colt would be CR I Du Too "Duwie." The Peppy San Badger colt, and 3 other horses were sold in order to purchase "Sky" from Waco, TX. Thanksgiving 2003 "Sky" took the long trip from Texas to the then Iowa home of Compton Ranch. In March 2004 the Comptons purchased a serious reining prospect named Strait to Hollywood, a Paint son of the late Hollywood Dun It and sent him to Sherman Tegtmeier. This colt was quite the learning experience and an honor to own. He was later sold due to financial difficulties. Since the weaning of "Duwie" in fall of 2004 when Amy and "Sky" began their barrel racing career together, there has been no looking back. In summer 2005 Amy began giving lessons on "Phil", her rider also interested in barrels and she has since grown into quite the barrel prospect for Compton Ranch. "Sky" and Amy continue competing together, meeting small goals along the way. Amy hopes to one day win a World Championship and make it to the NFR.
